Gym Anxiety: How to tackle it
At some point, everyone has been a beginner at the gym. For some people getting started at a gym can be quite easy but for others it can be a nerve-racking process.
You’re not alone
All over the world there will be beginners starting at the gym every single day. So remember, do not feel like you're alone if you're just getting started, there are many other people going through the same process and there will always be people around to help you. Over time you WILL become the person you looked at as being experienced when you first started! Understanding this can make that first step easier, however it certainly does not mean it won't be a big big step for a lot of us.
It’s OK to feel nervous
It's okay to be nervous and it's okay to be self conscious, most of us are, but you'll soon realise that everyone at the gym is there to work on themselves and they're not looking at you or judging you. The majority of people would be happy to help you navigate the early stages of your health and fitness journey.
Structure your workout
One of the main challenges stepping into a gym for the first time is simply knowing what to do. Being unsure of what to do and how to do things can make our experience overwhelming and it quickly becomes a barrier for beginners. Having a structured workout to follow massively helps with this because you'll know exactly what you need to do and how to do it, rather than trying to make it up on the spot.
